In the last week I’ve had trouble downloading emails from just ONE of the 4 accounts. The others work fine as usual. However, some settings are different to those advised by Gmail which don’t work for me. For example, the incoming server I use is imap. The port numbers are also different.

I can only assume this is because my email accounts are several years old and using legacy settings. Now, the 3rd party access for less secure apps is definitely turned ON in Gmail settings.

It only works with my long term settings which are different to Gmail recommendations. I want to store emails on a separate hard-drive, not on the Windows 10 OS hard-drive.

Sorry for the rambling email, but I hope I’ve made myself clear. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. I did find one security alert notification in myaccount. This is now shown as “Recognized”. However, after an hour or so I tried again and it didn’t work.

I checked the security page again but that had no new security alerts. Last alert still shown as “Recognized. You did say I might have to click the “this was me” button a few times to see if it works and I’ll report back in a day or 2 with the result.

I do live in Thailand but have not experienced this problem before. However, I am out of town right now using a mobile phone for internet access to my PC, not my usual cable internet. I clicked your post as “NO” as not solving the problem just to keep the thread going. By the way, concerning the Gmail settings I mentioned in my OP, do you happen to know if Gmail uses legacy settings for old Gmail accounts? I tried all sorts of combinations of googlemail. Thanks again for your help.

While I’m away from base using the fiber internet connection , I decided a month ago to clone my Windows 10 OS to a new PC at the new location where I use my mobile phone as a mobile hotspot.

I’ll continue to monitor Gmail security and “Recognize” any suspicious activity which pops up, and let you know the result. By the way, I’ve just now received another Gmail security alert from another email account, and although I think it’s highly unlikely that someone else tried to access my account, I’ve changed the account password just to be on the safe side. Maybe Google are getting more strict with security. However, I did make a couple of changes since my last post:. However, that initially did NOT solve the access problem.

I deleted these passwords. Again, this did not solve the problem, at least initially. I doubt if the above changes did the trick but I mention them in case others have the same problem. No reason I can think of for this and there are no other security issues in account settings.

The other 3 accounts work OK. I’ll just have to live with it until I return to base in January and try using another PC with a faster fiber internet connection.

Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community. Search the community and support articles Outlook Outlook. But still the problem email account does not connect to Gmail. As stated, this only occurs on ONE of my 4 Gmail accounts.

Thanks for any advice. This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread.

I have the same question 0. Report abuse. Details required :. Cancel Submit. Previous Next. Moving the IMAP data file: you need to use a registry key, before you add the account. On the log in problems – in the google account security – myaccount. If so, click the ‘this was me’ button on each. The solution Gmail wants you to use is enabling 2-factor – but I’ve found clicking the ‘this was me’ button and using the unlock link a few times usually fixes it. At least when connecting from the US.

Thanks for your feedback. How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. Hello Diane, Many thanks for your suggestion. I don’t know if they have different settings for legacy accounts but other users have mentioned that they can only connect using googlemail. The forum threads stay open for three months past the last post.

Hello Diane, While I’m away from base using the fiber internet connection , I decided a month ago to clone my Windows 10 OS to a new PC at the new location where I use my mobile phone as a mobile hotspot.

They are. They want people to enable 2-factor authentication. So I think Diane’s suggestions did eventually work. Thanks again to Diane for your help. Thanks for the update!
